Christmas!

December 7th, 2009 by admin

Gabriel is more excited about Christmas than I’ve ever seen him be excited about anything. In Chicago, Christmas decorations went up about two weeks before Thanksgiving. So, I kept trying to get him excited about turkey and pilgrims, and he would just point to the mistletoe and holly and say, “It’s Christmas Season!” Now that we’re past Thanksgiving, though, I’m past my Scrooge stage and we’re all three of us getting into the holiday spirit. We went and saw Santa arrive in Chicago (by boat, with Coast Guard escort no less), and put up the tree yesterday. Pictures to follow! I think we’re planning on visiting Santa no less than seven times in the next two and a half weeks. To be honest, I’m not sure I’m less excited than Gabey. I’m just better at containing myself.

Any child who can rationalize that Santa is not expecting total goodness out of a child and that by admitting that he is sometime bad and good, thus he will get coal AND presents is likely to have more enthusiasm over a holiday than just the average. (And perhaps it is very evident that he is related to his Uncle Josh!)
