Gabe’s play = parenting feedback

Gabey’s imaginative play, in addition to being adorable, has for a long time involved him replaying our relationship, the way he sees it. It’s always kind of odd for me, but also really useful insight. And it’s fun to watch it change over time. A couple of months ago it tended to be about one toy putting another to bed, or on time out. Now it’s all about my attempts to teach Gabe. Here’s what he’s playing right now:Lion: Dance like a princess.Grover: ugh! I can’t do it!Lion: You can do it! Try again …Grover: Okay. I try again.

I am beginning to have second thoughts about whose mentoring Gabe on this one and it’s the ugh in Gabe’s comment that has me wondering. The other day while watching Monk, a favorite of Gabe’s, I heard Monk utter, ugh, I can’t do it and Monk agreeing to try again, hmmmmm!!!
