Uncle Jeremy is (inadvertently) mean!

April 14th, 2008 by ian

So, Jeremy is being so so kind enough to drive us to the airport after a nice weekend in Chicago. Gabe is, for once, enjoying his car ride and singing:

Gabriel: “Go, Go, Go, Goo-oo”

Everyone in the car is kind of in on the song, and we’re all having a very good time. Jeremy starts to slow down so that we can come to a red light and he joins in, ad lib’bing a refrain which he thinks fits the change in speed:

Unca Jeremy: “Stop, Stop, STOP!”

Suddenly Gabriel stops dead in mid-lyric. His eyes water. And he breaks out the biggest pout I’ve ever seen. Jeremy tries very hard to say, “I didn’t mean stop singing, Gabriel! You can sing! Let’s sing! Go, Go, Goooo” But Gabe wasn’t having any of it. He probably sat for a full minute in shocked disbelief of how mean uncle Jeremy was before it all let loose:

Gabe: “wwwAAAAAAAAAAA!”

Gabe cried the rest of the way to the airport, Steph and I felt bad for the boy, but also found it a little funny, but poor Jeremy was just trying to get back in little Gabe’s good graces. You’ll have to see us again soon, Uncle Jeremy, to make it up to the little man.  Hint: he likes bananas!

Now Uncle Jeremy says Gabe only cried for a minute or so and said he got a hug and a kiss at the airport so he hopes Gabe has forgiven him!!

    We miss you already!

Well, I think that Gabe was maybe pouting quietly much longer than Jeremy realized — like a good uncle, he had his eyes on the road! But they did have a good hug at the airport. And we have a habit of showing Gabe pictures of family; I’m pretty sure that Gabe has forgiven him because we have pictures of the Guitar Hero fun, and no pictures of the Incident In the Car. So, tell Unca’ Jer not to worry! I’m sure Gabe will be his smiley self the next time they meet.

But it doesn’t mean that Steph and Ian won’t still tease him for it … probably for years to come.
