Big Boy Bed

March 24th, 2008 by ian

For a long time, we’ve been thinking about moving Gabe from a crib to a bed, but because he can be very rambunctious in the mornings, we were worried about him waking up, getting out of bed, and making trouble in his nursery.    Well, we finally made the plunge this last weekend, and I must say that I wish we’d done it sooner!     Previously one of our main daily grinds was putting him down to sleep in his crib — it would often take me an hour or more, where he would fall asleep on my shoulder, but as soon as I went to put him in the crib he’d bolt up wide awake and upset.    Especially in the last few weeks, I myself often couldn’t stay awake through the process and would end up falling asleep at 9pm (which seriously impacted my ability to do my work or spend time with my wife).    He’s much easier to put down in his bed, mainly because you can lie down with him until he’s asleep, and then simply extricate yourself, get up and leave.     It still takes a little while, but usually not more than half-an-hour, and honestly those nighttime cuddles are the high point of my most of days.    So, I’m pretty happy with the Big Boy Bed.

Gabe, you are growing so fast! Have your daddy post a picture of your new bed when he gets a chance. Now I’m wondering where you will sleep when you come visit us, not the pack and play anymore!
