Like father like son
Last night was a horrible rainy drizzly night, the kind of night which I have always enjoyed. I’ve always thought that being born and raised in Massachusetts, with its horrible weather, ruined me. But now I’m forced to wonder if its genetic. Gabe was having a hard time getting to sleep and often likes to take a walk to settle down to bed. He was trying to go outside, and I tried to show him that it was cold and miserable outside, but he was unphased. So, I bundled him up like a good Daddy does, and put him into his water-resistant baby carriage. And I bundled up myself, like my Daddy used to do for me, and put on my water-resistant shoes. And the both of us struck out into the night. Gabe had a great time feeling the rain with his hand and watching the river-of-light car headlights pass by in the night and the mist. Then he went to sleep and I walked him home and put him to bed.

Oh, Gabe, someday you’re going to have so many wonderful memories of all of the fun things your daddy does for and with you. I don’t know too many parents who would take their kiddo for a walk right before bedtime, you’re a lucky boy! And daddy’s pretty smart, instead of struggling to get you to sleep you both enjoyed a nice walk!
I’m thankful for the reminder to go with the flow more and let the kids take the lead! They often know just want they need!
